From Aisle to Dance Floor: Comfortable Yet Chic Bridal Gowns

From Aisle to Dance Floor: Comfortable Yet Chic Bridal Gowns

Your wedding day is a beautiful collection of precious moments, from the heartfelt vows to the joyous celebrations. Every little detail leads up to that unforgettable image of you gracefully walking down the aisle. And in that moment, your gown should truly feel like a part of your dreams, perfectly made just for you!

But as the ceremony wraps up and the dance floor starts calling your name, a new thought pops up: how can you really enjoy all the festivities without feeling restricted? The great news is, today's bridal designers are making it simpler than ever to find a wedding dress that's both stunningly beautiful and absolutely ready for a celebration.

We get that your dress needs to work just as hard as you do on your wedding day – basically, loving you back for 8+ hours! We're here to help you find a gown that lets you move freely, comfortably, and stylishly from your grand entrance all the way to your very last dance.

In this post, we're going to dive into three ways to make sure your bridal gown lets you celebrate without any limits. Let’s get into it!

Picking A Seamless Silhouette
The easiest choice is to go with a wedding dress in a silhouette that best transitions from the ceremony to the reception. For mobility purposes, the best silhouettes to go for are a-line wedding dresses and ball gown wedding dresses. These gowns offer a flattering shape that allows you to move freely without being constricted by a more fitted silhouette. Choose a dress in a lightweight fabric like chiffon, crepe, or even tulle that will move with you!

Embracing A Second Dress (Or Detachable Elements)
A second look for your reception gives you a chance to prioritize your comfort, show off your style, and dance without worry! This is a great option if you’re dreaming of a bold wedding dress with a train for your ceremony but want to dance the night away afterward. Heavy trains are difficult to manage, and a second shorter dress lets you celebrate without fear of tripping or damaging your gown. Plus, you’ll get even more photo opportunities with a second dress! You can opt for a flirty mini, a chic tea length bridal dress, or even go for a modern jumpsuit for something totally unique. You can even opt for a dress that has detachable elements like sleeves or an overskirt for a simple change without having to buy a second dress. Just make sure that you practice before the big day if you’ve got detachable elements, as it’s important to make sure you know how long it will take to make the changes.

The Art of the Bustle
If you’re set on wearing an elaborate gown for your ceremony and don’t want to change for your reception (which is totally understandable), a bustle is often the best way to go. Bustling is a method of gathering and lifting the train ofy our gown to the back of the dress after the ceremony using a series of buttons, hidden loops, or hooks, allowing the bride to move and dance freely without tripping over the train. This is a process done by a seamstress during alterations that transforms the train into a manageable length. You’ve got a few different options for bustling and can discuss this with your seamstress:

American style (over bustle): the train is gathered and fastened over the top of the skirt creating a pleated effect.
French style (under bustle): the train is tucked under the skirt, creating a layered look.
Royal style: a more elaborate style with pickup points in multiple places down the back, creating dramatic folds.
Ballroom style: similar to the French style, but the train is tucked under the gown making it appear as if there’s no train at all.
