A Complete Timeline for Bridal Dress Shopping

A Complete Timeline for Bridal Dress Shopping

Wedding dress shopping is by far the most exciting part of wedding planning, and it requires a good amount of planning! It’s essential to have an idea of what your wedding dress shopping timeline should look like to ensure a stress-free and smooth shopping experience to find “the one.”

Today, we’re going to guide you through the stages of finding your bridal gown. Get ready to say “I do” to the dress of your dreams!

12-18 Months Pre-Wedding Date
If you’ve got this much time until your wedding date, this is the perfect time to start dreaming up the perfect gown. Start exploring styles, browsing designers online, and yes, we give you full permission to scroll to your heart’s content to get inspired! Get a sense of what you like, what you don’t like, and what’s available in your area.

This is also the right time to set a budget. We know budgets are annoying to think about, but it’s important that you have an idea of what you’re willing to spend before you try on dresses. The last thing you want is to try on a gown that’s way out of your budget and fall in love with it! Remember that you’ll need to spare some money for alterations, accessories, undergarments, etc. We don't offer in-house alterations, so you'll want to find a local seamstress to handle those!

Also, make sure you book your appointment! Whether you plan on trying on dresses at one boutique or multiple, it’s important to make appointments in advance because most boutiques only take appointments, and popular times can book up in advance. Slower months for shopping can be around November-December (right around the corner!) and late spring (think March/April). If you can swing it, try booking a weekday appointment for a quieter experience!

9-12 Months Before the Wedding
This is the sweet spot to go wedding dress shopping! Get those appointments booked for this time and get excited about trying on lots of pretty gowns. It’s important to find your dress during this time because production can take longer than you expect to craft your wedding dress. Unless you’re shopping at a sample sale where you can take your dress home the same day, you’re going to have to special order your dress and allow anywhere from 4-6 months of production and shipping time.

6-9 Months Before the Wedding
This is ideally when you want to put the entire bridal look together with veils, shoes, and jewelry. We have a gorgeous selection of bridal accessories that you’ll adore - just get your bridal stylist to help you put together the perfect look!

3-6 Months Before the Wedding
This is usually when you’re going to have your first fitting appointment, where the dress will be fitted to your body and customizations can be made. Make sure that your seamstress can accommodate your wedding date before starting the process!

1-2 Months Before the Wedding
You should expect a follow up appointment to your first fitting to check progress and make any further adjustments as needed. This is time when you should be approaching completion of your wedding dress, making sure everything is fitting perfectly!

2-4 Weeks Before the Wedding
By now, you should have had your final fitting and then you’ll take your dress home! Ideally your dress will be steamed and ready to go for your big day, though you’ll probably want to steam it the day before your wedding as well to ensure no wrinkles have formed over time.
